Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with lid
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Small Whisk or Spoon
  • Fine Mesh Strainer (Optional)
  • Serving glass
  • Grater or microplane (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup eggnog
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin purée
  • 2 oz dark rum or bourbon
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup optional, for extra sweetness
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves or allspice
  • Ice cubes for shaking or serving
  • Whipped cream for topping (optional)
  • Ground nutmeg or cinnamon stick for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Add the Pumpkin and Eggnog to a Shaker

  • Scoop 1/4 cup of pumpkin purée into your cocktail shaker or mason jar.
  • Pour in 1/2 cup of eggnog over the pumpkin.
  • Pro Tip: Use a small whisk or spoon to mix them together first — pumpkin can clump, and pre-mixing helps create a smoother drink.

Step 2: Add the Alcohol and Sweetener

  • Measure out 2 oz of dark rum or bourbon and add it to the shaker.
  • Drizzle in 1 tbsp of maple syrup if you want it sweeter (totally optional depending on your eggnog).
  • Pro Tip: Taste your eggnog before adding syrup — some store-bought varieties are already quite sweet.

Step 3: Spice it Up

  • Sprinkle in 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/8 tsp nutmeg, and 1/8 tsp cloves or allspice.
  • Give the mixture another gentle stir or shake to evenly distribute the spices.
  • Pro Tip: Go light on the cloves/allspice — they’re strong and can overpower the drink quickly.

Step 4: Shake with Ice

  • Add a handful of ice cubes to the shaker.
  • Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds until the mixture is chilled and slightly frothy.
  • Pro Tip: The longer you shake, the creamier and more blended the drink becomes — especially helpful when using thick pumpkin purée.

Step 5: Strain and Serve

  • Strain the drink into a rocks glass or small cocktail glass filled with fresh ice (or serve it straight up, your call).
  • Optional Garnish: Top with a dollop of whipped cream and a light dusting of nutmeg, or add a cinnamon stick for flair.
