Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450g shrimp (peeled and deveined, tails on or off)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning store-bought or homemade
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for extra spice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Peel and devein the shrimp, making sure they're clean. Rinse under cold water and pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. This helps them cook evenly and sear nicely.
  • In a large bowl, mix the shrimp with Cajun seasoning, (smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper). Ensure the shrimp are evenly coated with the spices.
  • Heat olive oil (or butter) in a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking hot.
  • Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side until they turn pink and slightly charred, then flip them over and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, as shrimp become rubbery if left on the heat for too long.
  • Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the shrimp while they’re still in the skillet. Stir gently to coat them in the flavorful juices.
  • Remove the shrimp from the skillet and transfer to a serving plate. Sprinkle with chopped parsley for garnish if desired.
