Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Airtight Container or Jar
  • Baking sheet (optional)
  • Spatula or wooden spoon

Ingredients

Dried Fruit

  • 1 cup dried tart cherries
  • ½ cup dried cranberries optional for extra sweetness

Nuts & Seeds

  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • ½ cup raw cashews
  • ½ cup pumpkin seeds pepitas

Extras

  • ¼ cup dark chocolate chips 70% cocoa or higher
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened shredded coconut optional
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients

  • Measure out all your nuts, seeds, dried tart cherries, and other mix-ins according to the ingredient list.
  • If you prefer toasted nuts and seeds, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2: Toast Nuts and Seeds (Optional)

  • Spread the almonds, cashews, and pumpkin seeds evenly on a baking sheet.
  • Place in the oven for about 8–10 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even toasting.
  • Watch closely during the last few minutes to prevent burning — nuts can go from perfectly toasted to burnt quickly.
  • Remove from oven and let them cool completely before mixing.
  • Pro Tip: Toasting enhances the flavor and adds a satisfying crunch, but if you’re short on time, raw nuts work perfectly fine too.

Step 3: Combine the Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, add the dried tart cherries, optional cranberries, toasted or raw nuts and seeds, dark chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and sea salt.
  • Gently stir everything together using a spatula or wooden spoon until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Step 4: Taste and Adjust

  • Take a small handful and taste your trail mix.
  • If it feels too tart, add a little more dried cranberries or a few extra chocolate chips.
  • If it’s too salty, reduce the sea salt next time or balance it with extra dried fruit.

Step 5: Store Your Trail Mix

  • Transfer the finished trail mix into an airtight container or jar.
  • Store it in a cool, dry place for up to two weeks, or keep it in the fridge to extend freshness for up to a month.
  • Pro Tip: Portion out your trail mix into small snack bags or containers to make grabbing a quick, healthy snack even easier during busy days.
