This classic treat was created in New Orleans in the 1950s and has remained a favorite for good reason. It’s simple, requires just a few ingredients, and feels fancy enough to impress guests. But the best part? You can make it in under 15 minutes!
2tablespoonsdark rumoptional, but adds great flavor!
1teaspoonvanilla extract
2ripe bananassliced in half lengthwise
For Serving:
Vanilla ice creamabout 2 scoops per serving
Chopped nuts or whipped creamoptional, for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Melt the Butter and Sugar
Place a skillet over medium heat and add the butter. Let it melt completely.
Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon, mixing until the sugar dissolves and the mixture becomes smooth.
Step 2: Cook the Bananas
Slice the bananas in half lengthwise and place them cut side down into the sauce.
Let them cook for 2-3 minutes, then gently flip them and cook for another 2 minutes.
Step 3: Add the Flavor
Pour in the vanilla extract and stir to combine.
If using rum, carefully pour it into the pan. If you want to flambé, use a lighter or match to ignite the alcohol. (Be careful! The flames will burn off quickly.)
Step 4: Serve Immediately
Remove from heat and serve immediately over a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Garnish with chopped nuts or whipped cream if desired. Enjoy!
