Blackberry Mocktail

What I love about this blackberry mocktail is how simple it is to make. You don’t need any fancy ingredients or equipment, just a handful of fresh blackberries, some sparkling water, and a few other basic pantry items.

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Citrus Juicer
  • Strainer or fine mesh sieve
  • Glass or Cocktail Shaker
  • Ice cube tray

Ingredients

For the Blackberry Mocktail:

  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1-2 teaspoons honey optional, adjust to sweetness preference
  • 1 cup sparkling water or soda water
  • Ice cubes

For Garnish (optional):

  • Lime wedges
  • Fresh mint leaves

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Blackberries and Lime

  • Grab your fresh blackberries — make sure they’re clean and dry. You’ll want about 1 cup of berries, which is roughly 2 small handfuls.
  • Juice your lime: Cut it in half and squeeze the juice into a small bowl. You’ll need about 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice. Use a citrus juicer to get the most juice out of it.
  • Optional pro tip: If you want a stronger lime flavor, use a little extra lime juice. Just keep it balanced so the drink doesn't get too tart!

Step 2: Blend the Blackberries

  • Place the blackberries and lime juice in the blender. Toss them in with the 1-2 teaspoons of honey (if you like it sweeter).
  • Blend everything together on high for about 30 seconds or until it’s smooth. You want a nice, thick consistency without big chunks of fruit.
  • If you don’t have a blender, you can use a food processor, but it may take a bit longer to get it smooth. You can also mash the blackberries with a fork, but it won’t be as smooth.

Step 3: Strain the Mixture (Optional)

  • Strain the berry mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or large pitcher. This removes the seeds and any leftover pulp.
  • Use the back of a spoon to press the mixture down if you want to extract as much juice as possible. This will take about 1-2 minutes.
  • Pro Tip: Don’t skip the straining unless you’re okay with a little pulp! It’ll make the mocktail look more polished and smooth.

Step 4: Mix in the Sparkling Water

  • Pour your strained berry mixture into a glass (or a shaker if you want to be extra fancy).
  • Add 1 cup of sparkling water or soda water — adjust more or less depending on how fizzy you like your drink.
  • Stir gently to combine. Don’t stir too vigorously, or you’ll lose all the bubbles!
  • As you mix, the drink will start to fizz up and bubble, turning into a light, effervescent mocktail with a bright purple hue.

Step 5: Add Ice and Garnish

  • Fill your glass with ice — you’ll want to make sure the drink is nice and cold. If you’re feeling fancy, freeze some blackberries into your ice cubes before adding them.
  • Garnish your mocktail with a lime wedge or a few mint leaves. If you want to get creative, you can even skewer some blackberries on a toothpick for a cute touch.
  • Pro Tip: For extra flair, add a sprig of mint just before serving — it adds a nice aromatic touch and makes the drink look even more inviting.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy!

  • Take a sip — and enjoy the fresh, fizzy, and perfectly sweet flavor of your blackberry mocktail!
  • If you feel like it needs a little more sweetness, just add another drizzle of honey and stir.
