Equipment

  • Large Skillet or Wok
  • Sharp Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Garlic press (optional)

Ingredients

For the Stir Fry:

  • 4 sausage links your choice of type: pork, chicken, or plant-based
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables bell peppers, onions, broccoli, or your choice of veggies
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar optional for sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional for a little kick
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Sausage

  • Heat the Skillet: Place your large skillet or wok on the stove and set the heat to medium-high. Let it warm up for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Slice the Sausage: While the skillet is heating up, slice your sausage links into bite-sized pieces. This allows them to cook faster and gives you more surface area for a delicious, crispy texture.
  • Cook the Sausage: Add the sausage slices to the hot skillet. Let them cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are browned and fully cooked through.
  • Pro Tip: Don’t overcrowd the pan. If your pan is too crowded, the sausage won’t get crispy. You may want to cook them in batches if your pan is small.
  • Remove and Set Aside: Once the sausage is browned, remove it from the skillet and set it aside on a plate. You’ll add it back in later.

Step 2: Prepare the Veggies

  • Prep the Garlic: Mince the garlic cloves finely. If you have a garlic press, use it to make this step faster.
  • Cut the Vegetables: While the sausage is cooking, chop up your vegetables. Aim for bite-sized pieces. For example, slice bell peppers into strips and chop broccoli into small florets. If you’re using frozen veggies, no chopping needed!

Step 3: Sauté the Garlic and Vegetables

  • Heat the Oil: Return the skillet to the heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Let it warm up for about 1 minute.
  • Sauté the Garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté it for 1 minute. Stir it constantly to avoid burning, as garlic cooks quickly and can turn bitter if overcooked.
  • Pro Tip: Keep an eye on the garlic! It should become fragrant, not browned or crispy.
  • Add the Vegetables: Toss the chopped vegetables into the skillet. Stir everything together so the garlic and oil coat the veggies evenly. Stir-fry for about 5-6 minutes until they’re tender but still slightly crisp.
  • Season with Salt and Pepper: Once the veggies are tender, sprinkle in some salt and pepper to taste. Give everything a good stir to distribute the seasoning.

Step 4: Combine Sausage and Sauce

  • Return the Sausage to the Pan: Add the cooked sausage back into the skillet with the vegetables. Stir everything together so it’s all evenly mixed.
  • Add the Soy Sauce: Pour 1 tablespoon of soy sauce over the sausage and veggies. Stir well to ensure the sauce evenly coats everything.
  • Add Honey or Sugar (Optional): If you’re using honey or brown sugar, now’s the time to add it! This balances the savory flavor of the soy sauce with a touch of sweetness. Stir it in until it dissolves.
  • Optional Heat: If you like a little kick, sprinkle in some red pepper flakes and stir. Taste to adjust the seasoning. Add more soy sauce if you want a stronger flavor.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy

  • Final Stir: Give everything one last stir to make sure the sausage and veggies are well-mixed and evenly coated in sauce.
  • Taste and Adjust: Take a quick taste test. If it needs a bit more salt, pepper, or soy sauce, now’s the time to add it!
  • Serve: Once everything is cooked to your liking, remove the skillet from the heat. Serve the sausage stir fry hot on a plate or over a bed of rice, noodles, or even as-is if you want a low-carb option.
