Equipment

  • Large Skillet or Cast-Iron Pan
  • Tongs
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Cutting Board and Knife
  • Small bowl
  • Meat thermometer (optional)

Ingredients

For the Pork Chops:

  • 4 bone-in or boneless pork chops about 1-inch thick
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

For the Apple Cider Sauce:

  • 1 cup apple cider not vinegar
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar for balance
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch optional, for thickening
  • 1 apple thinly sliced (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Pork Chops

  • Pat the pork chops dry with a paper towel and season both sides with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and dried thyme. This step enhances the flavor and helps create a beautiful crust when seared.

Step 2: Sear the Pork Chops

  • Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the pork chops and sear for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove them from the pan and set aside.

Step 3: Make the Apple Cider Sauce

  • In the same skillet, pour in the apple cider and chicken broth. Use a whisk to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Add Dijon mustard, maple syrup, cinnamon, and apple cider vinegar, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for 3-4 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 4: Thicken the Sauce (Optional)

  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl. Slowly whisk it into the sauce and let it simmer until thickened.

Step 5: Return the Pork Chops to the Pan

  • Place the seared pork chops back into the skillet, spooning some of the sauce over the top. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let them cook for another 5 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  • Remove the pork chops from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes. Garnish with thinly sliced apples and serve with your favorite sides!
